  Do you know of any "baptized" JW's that committed suicide or attempted?

  i remember one of my childhood friends was found dead and the police said he committed suicide.

  i just could not believe it because my friend was a "devout" jw almost franatical about it.

  now years later since i have seen both sides of the coin i am beginning to wonder if my friend did indeed kill himself.

  I know of 2 successful attempts.

  One D,fed Man hung himself .End of story.Poor Guy.

  The second was one of the worse stories i heard from the Religion.

  A Brother finds out his new Wife is cheating on Him and is so distraught he Gasses himself in his Car.The Evil Bitch turns up at his Funeral in the same car,with her new Boyfriend.

  Actually,that is the worse story i ever heard from the Religion.I dont think you can blame JW,s for that ,but it is related.It happened about 15 Years ago in a relatively nearby Cong,and affected lots of People ,including me a young Pioneer at the time.He was roughly the same Age as me.The Wife was D,fed.Big fucking deal.That poor Lad.

  Ive known of quite a few Suicide attempts.

  One engaged couple got called back for a JUDICIAL meeting for sitting together during the meetings.it seems brother selfimportant had " brought this matter to their attn" and they still sat together next meeting.. .

  Is this true?I would have told that particular Elder to piss right off and made sure we sat together right down the front at the very next Meeting

  Its funny,i always thought of the Appeals procedure as being totally at odds with "spirit appointed decisions".

  After all,if the the Decision has already been made in Heaven BEFORE the original JC ,or bound whatever,and the Elders are just confirming Gods Decision then its gotta be right.Right?

  Wrong.Quite clearly the whole procedure is a Farce.

  anyone else remember new babies coming into the world and being given "biblical" names?

  I think all this subliminal stuff is all Baloney.It aint happening.Some people are shown ink blots and can see all kinds of crazy stuff.Is it a coincidence that Psychiatrists use this method?I think not .

  I remember the bru-ha -ha when that apparently funny pic was in the live forever book.You know the one,where the Wife needs her dues and theres a Pic of a Goat in a picture frame.Utter crap.

  (mind you,they did change the pic in later editions...cue X-Files Music)

  Do JWs really grieve?

  a strange thing happened to me while watching a television movie on the life of the late nascar star dale earnhardt; i got choked up remembering a close family member who died at an early age.. .

  for those of you who aren't familar with earnhardt, his father died when dale was a young man and this movie portrayed him pretty much living his entire life trying to live up to his father's ideals.

  of course he died on the race track having some of the same issues with his own son, now a superstar on the track.. .

  I've been to funerals of JW children, mothers, husbands, old and young. JWs do grieve. They grieve as hard and as long as any other Christian.

  I totally agree with this Statement.of course they grieve.I have never heard of anyone being counselled for grieving too much and i have never heard anyones faith called in to question if they do.Maybe this has happened elsewhere,but the Jw,s ive ever known (and grew up with)by and large are normal People with normal fears and concerns who enjoy life and are extremely upset when someones life is over.

  i've been reading christopher hitchen's love poverty, and war.

  it's a pretty good book that puts a lot of things in perspective regarding iraq, iran, pakistan...there's even a section on mother teresa.

  this section...was probably the most interesting part of the whole book i have read so far.

  Princess Diana? Poor thing, having her life ruined by the Windsors. Wouldn't rate her with Mandela, Ghandi, King et.al.

  We all could pull apart any number of these famous "saintlike" People.I would suggest Diana for instance was a Manipulative ,slightly crazy and Very Rich Airhead.

  I also have a problem with Mandela.let us never forget he went down for the Murder of a Policeman and only had to renounce violence to achieve his Freedom.

  King?Agreed.His non-violent principles were wonderful.But no doubt some Skeletons in the Cupboard?I for one dont know.Ditto Ghandi.

  As for Mother theresa....i suppose she did raise awareness of suffering...but then so did Di with the Land mines and Aids!I suppose therein lies the conundrum.Do the good works and charities outweigh the Personal traits and bad actions?

  Live aid...

  well,ive just recently purchased the live aid dvd this weekend and its brought back some great memories of a truly great day of music.i remember it really affected me for some time after.i also remember it was a district convention day and i had a bad case of "hay fever"so couldnt go.. i thought queen and u2 stole the show and the dvd has confirmed that imho,but what a fine effort by mr geldof,who still works hard in the charity dept even today.its such a shame that the need is still there for third world charity but it is great that people care so much.it beats waiting around for some far off paradise.. i would highly recommend this dvd,yep,some great stuff on there.

  It really is a top Dvd.Its amazing just how mant Stars were there in 1 Day!The only downside is i recall Led Zep reformed for the event,but they are not on there!Shame.
